HASTINGS, MN May 21,2014 - lntek Plastics, a Minnesota plastic extrusion company that specializes in custom plastic extrusions, has partnered with Dakota County Technical College (DCTC) on a three-year training initiative. DCTC will provide technical skills training to 165 lntek employees thanks to a grant they received from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) in the amount of $260,000.
The grant was awarded under the agency’s Minnesota Job Skills Partnership Program (MSJP). The program works strategically with both businesses and educational institutions to train or retrain workers, expand work opportunities and keep high-quality jobs in the state.
"We are pleased to be partnering with Dakota County Technical College and MJSP to provide high-quality technical training for our employees," says Steve Glienke, Intek's Chief Operating Officer. "Being awarded this grant will allow us to utilize DCTC's Customized training program which is well-suited to meet the needs of our workforce."
Dakota County Technical College and Intek will develop new and customized entry- and advanced level training to be held at the worksite. Courses will include Extrusion Operations, Plastics and Electrical Troubleshooting, Engineering for Tool and Die, OSHA Industrial Safety, Managing for Sustainability and Culture Change. Newly trained employees will be eligible for higher-level positions as they become available due to retirements and company expansion.
